When Gene cut his hair for Locks of Love he did it Casper, Wyoming during a diocesan youth event. The plan was to give the two rounds of workshops in the afternoon with long hair and a beard, then come back in the evening to host the talent show hair chopped off and clean shaven. So while Gene was getting his hair cut by Sarah, hairdresser to the stars, Joia hatched a plan. Brad's Younger Brother Brent had not cut his hair in over three years (this drove his mother crazy). Joia was able to talk Brent in to letting the youth at the conference decide if Brent should cut his hair as well for Locks of Love. The way the voting would happen was simple at three different times during the talent show the crowd would give money to Gene (if they want Brent to cut his hair) or to Brad (if they wanted him to keep his hair) with all the money going the charity of Brent's choice (the Brittany Farmer Scholarship Fund, which provide money for youth to attend conferences and retreats). By the end of the night over $2900 had been raised and Brent's mother got to cut her son's hair. Pictures below.
