Bits and Pieces

After being told about St. Francis of Assisi’s life...“I haven’t learned that yet because we don’t have Old Testament until Monday.”
Jennifer Sparks, age 14, Juan Diego Catholic High School, Draper, UT

Randy Farmer (Brad’s dad) on discussing the fact that hurricane Floyd almost prevented Brad and Joia from making it to Brad’s sister Brenda’s wedding vs. his mom’s prayers: “Hurricane Floyd doesn’t stand a chance against Cheryle (Brad’s mom).” …the power of prayer!

After hearing Brad describe what the lifestyle of the disciples must have been like following Jesus around for three years, Natalie, age 22, of St. Joseph’s in Penfield, NY said: “Sounds like a roadie.” That’s a good description for the disciples… roadie to the Messiah.

Gert (cook at St. Amelia’s rectory, near Buffalo, NY , age 84) to Brad (about his hair): “Is that a wig?”

“When a woman dresses immodestly and looks for love, she shoots herself in the foot. How so? Women sometimes say, ‘It’s not my fault if he has a hormone problem if I dress a certain way. That’s his problem.’ But, it is the woman’s problem as well, and this is why: The ladies do not realize how visually oriented men are, and how easily they fall into lustful sins of the mind. But, when a man sins, he becomes separated from Christ, who is the source of unconditional love. Does a woman really want to separate men from the source of the unconditional love that she seeks?” Jason Evert

“I’ve actually lived a very sheltered life... so you guys are very funny.” - Carla Erickson, Carmel, IN

“Come on everyone! Get up and do the Macarena! It’s an American classic. Everyone loves the Macarana!” (American classic eh?) MC at a Jr. High youth rally in Biloxi, MS

In small group discussions at the Diocese of Biloxi Jr. High Rally everyone was asked, “If you could be any cartoon who would you be?” One of the adults pointed to the cartoon of Gene on her APeX t-shirt.

“That’s my brother. His name is James. My name is Lewis. And that’s my daddy. His name is Dad.” Three year old (or so) in Cleveland, OH

To Brad, “You look just like Chris from N’Sync’s cousin.” A female high school student in Cleveland who was speaking with great authority being she has met Chris from N’Sync’s cousin.

“You look like a robber.” kindergartner in Hampton, NH to Gene and Brad as she was walking by.

“APeX is a nationally known comedy duo based out of Washington, DC. They laugh, they cry and they are wearing pants. You might remember Gene and Brad as the voices for Timon and Pumba from Disney’s the Lion King, and they are the current reigning Eastern Bocci Ball Tag Team champions.” “APeX is a nationally known comedy duo based out of Washington, DC where they own and manage a successful Beauty Salon. They are both graduates of the NASA Space Program and in their free time they are professional bowlers.” Dan Richard (with help form Matt Corcoran) Mankado, MN

“My Lord God. I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefor I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are always with me, and you will never leave me to face perils alone.” Thomas Merton
